Town of Severance's Mosquito Management Program
Ensuring resident safety is our top priority! Through ongoing Integrated Mosquito Management, we monitor and reduce mosquito populations to safeguard against mosquito-borne diseases. The Town of Severance is part of a program with weekly trapping that will occur at 6 different locations around town. This surveillance-based approach will help prevent West Nile Virus and provide data on adult mosquitoes and where they frequent. Treatment is determined by the mosquito population data found in the traps.
A list of scheduled treatments and trapping locations can be found at the VDCI Website; under "Adult Mosquito Trap Data." Spraying schedules are updated weekly by Vector and may be different each week as spraying is dependent on the number of mosquitoes caught in the trap that week. Application operations will take place between dusk and dawn and, as always, are weather-dependent. An interactive map with the Severance application areas and info regarding the last application can be found on the Map.
Understanding the Vector Mosquito Spray Zone Map
See below an example of the interactive spray zone map. You can see where the traps are placed, how many mosquitoes the trap has caught, and possible spraying locations. These are all color-coded. Darker colors mean more mosquito presence and that there will likely be spraying shortly.
You may sign up for notifications on future spraying from Vector at their VDCI Mosquito Management website (Scroll to the bottom where it says "Spray Notification and Shut-Off Requests")
